In Kuressaare, we visited a fortress – the ‚Arensburg‘ and tried Estonian ice-cream.

The town’s name may come from kurg (crane) and saare (island).

The name of the city’s castle stems from Kuressaare’s historic name Arensburg (from Middle High German a(a)r (eagle)), which probably derives from the eagle that is depicted on the city‘s coat of arms.
