Feste Boyen

We took a driving break in Gizycko. There, we watched the opening of a revolving bridge, with so many boats passing through. The bridge was operated manually and our three girls were allowed to close it.

We explored Feste Boyen – a fortress constructed between 1843-1845 to block the narrow land passage between two lakes. The fortress was given the name after one of the initiators of this project, a Prussian minister of defense, Hermann von Boyen.

There were many buildings to look at. They were nicely cool. However, they were mostly ruins. The descriptions just talked about the construction, not much about the use of the building of live in the fortress.
